Supported browsers
This website has been designed to support a wide variety
of browser and operating system combinations by making sure that it follows
accepted standards – notably use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS2).
These are a set of instructions for the web browser that tell it how to
format a page and they can include things like font size, colour and the
way in which links appear.
The site has so far been tested using the latest
versions of
Internet
Explorer,
Mozilla
Firefox and
Netscape Navigator. We
plan to carry out further testing on other browsers in the next few
months.
The list of tested browsers will cover the vast majority
of users of this site. However, those with less common browsers or with
early versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator that do not
support CSS2 may find that pages may not display exactly as
intended.
Most browser suppliers will allow you to upgrade for
free. To upgrade your browser, go to the supplier’s website and
follow the instructions provided.
Printing
A printer-friendly version of any web page can be
displayed by clicking on Print View towards the top right of the browser
window. You can then print the page using your browser’s print button
or menu option.
Documents
This website includes a number of links to documents
which can either be opened directly within a browser window or downloaded
and viewed offline.
A document may be in any of the following
formats:
-
Microsoft Word
-
Microsoft Excel (spreadsheet)
-
Microsoft PowerPoint (presentation)
-
Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF)
A link to such a document will show the format and file
size.
In order to view a PDF document you will need to
download Adobe's Acrobat Reader if you do not
have it installed. There is no charge for this.
In order to view a Microsoft Office document, you will
either need the corresponding Microsoft application software or a viewer,
which can be downloaded for free from the Microsoft site:
To download and save a document to your computer
(instead of opening it within the browser window), right-click on the link
to the document (if you have a PC) or hold down the mouse button over the
link (if you have a Mac). In either case, a popup menu will appear. Select
Save Target As and choose a location and file name to save the
document.
