Submitted Draft Regional Spatial Strategy

South West Councils (formerly the South West Regional Assembly) is the statutory Regional Planning Body responsible for the monitoring and implementation of RSS and keeping regional planning matters under review. The SWRA prepared, in partnership with regional stakeholders, a revised draft RSS and submitted its Draft Regional Spatial Strategy for the South West 2006 – 2026 to GOSW in 2006. Further details on the draft are available on the SWRA website through the link below.

The public consultation period on the draft RSS ended on 30 August 2006.

The draft RSS  was  subject to independent testing at an Examination in Public (EiP) held in Exeter between 17 April 2007 and 6 July 2007. The Secretary of State  appointed a Panel for this purpose, chaired by Jim Parke BSc (Hons) Geography, MRTPI, with David Lavender as the Inspector member. The Panel's report was published on 10 January 2008.

The Secretary of State's proposed changes to the draft RSS were published in July 2008.

Further information on the RSS and the Panel's report can be viewed through the link at the bottom of the page.

Further information can also be found on EIP website below.

The Government Office for the South West has  made formal representations  to the Panel on behalf of Government  (see related documents below).
