Prospects for South West economy

Published: Mon, 11 Jan 2010 11:06:35

MPs on the South West Select Committee have announced a short follow-up inquiry to their work on the impact of the economic downturn on the south west and the government's response.

The Committee intends to take evidence during the first part of 2010 on the future prospects for the south west economy, expanding on some of the issues raised in the first inquiry. The Committee is seeking written submissions on the following:

  • the prospects for the regional economy;
  • what the region is doing to promote the five sectors identified in the Government's Partnership for Growth document: digital economy, low carbon technologies, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and the creative industries; and
  • the effectiveness of regional bodies in supporting rural and remote economies in the region.

The Committee asks for written submissions in accordance with the guidelines stated below, and would be grateful if they could be made by noon on Friday 22 January 2010, although submissions received after that date will be accepted.

A copy of the submission should be sent by e-mail to regionalcommittees@parliament.uk. More information is available from the link below.
