In Trowbridge, he met and congratulated the first young recruit to
Wiltshire Council through the Future Jobs Fund.
Andrew Sprules is 24 and had been unemployed since completing his MSc in
Environmental Dynamics and Climate Change in October 2008.
His role as Mapping Assistant with Wiltshire Council sees him working on a
project for the VisitWiltshire Tourism Partnership. The role sees him
identifying a range of existing walks which can be easily mapped so that
they can be added to the growing range of walks featured on the
VisitWiltshire website.
Jim Knight said: "I'm delighted that Andrew has found employment with the
Council, it gives him a fantastic opportunity and shows how the Future Jobs
Fund is working in the South West.
"As a Government, we are determined to see young people getting the help
and support they need to get into employment. To help do this we have
invested £1bn to create local jobs for young people and launched the
Backing Young Britain campaign, bringing together employers across the
country to give young people the guarantee of work they deserve."
Later in the day, Jim Knight also be dropped into Swindon to see more
examples of how Britain is building its future in the South West. He saw
how the fight against crime in the area is making a difference by meeting
staff involved with a local Community Payback scheme and he also met
some of those who are currently paying back the community for their crimes.
