Norman Wright, of the Avon & Somerset Energy & Environmental Management Group, has retired as group Chairman. This took place at the group’s AGM in Portishead on 17 January 2008.
In recognition of Norman Wright’s long term commitment, enthusiasm and leadership of the Group, its members unanimously elected him as Life President. Norman led the Group for some 20 years, from 1987 – 2008 including his term as group Secretary from 1987 – 89.
At the AGM members noted the fact that the Group was still going strong with nearly 300 members over 31 years since it was created, as the first group of its kind in the UK in 1976. This was in response to the 1970s energy crisis and the need to conserve energy.
The ongoing success of the group and the part it has played in helping many South West organisations make significant reductions in both CO2 emissions and energy costs as well as reducing other environmental impacts was recognised as evidence of Norman Wright’s dedication and the respect he had earned from many managers across the region as well as the work of the committee that he led during his time in office.
On Norman Wright’s retirement, Mike Moultrie (Team Energy Bureau Services Ltd) took over as Chairman and Steve Hodges (North Somerset Council) was elected Secretary. For further information on the South West Energy & Environmental Management Groups, visit their website (link below).
