Awards for All is the small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund on behalf of Lottery good cause funders, Big Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. The scheme makes awards of between £300 and £10,000 to grass roots community groups and voluntary organisations.
Dame Emily Gateway Club collects £5,600 to fund transport and volunteer expenses so that people with learning disabilities in Bristol can enjoy more activities including outings to the cinema and bowling alley. The funding will make a big difference to many members who will now be able to take advantage of the club's weekly activities.
Norah Sansom, Treasurer of Dame Emily Gateway Club, said: "To say that this grant is wonderful is an understatement. We offer members the chance to take part in mainstream activities like everyone else, but being able to pick them up and take them home is essential. Their families know they are safe."
Cam and Dursley Camera Club, South Gloucestershire, snaps up £3,039 to buy a digital projector, a laptop computer, and photography software. The club, which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year, is keen to encourage new members, particularly younger people.
Elizabeth Restall, Immediate Past President of Cam and Dursley Camera Club, said: "We are absolutely delighted. This money opens up a whole new area for the club and will allow us to grow. In particular, we enjoy entering competitions but you really do need digital equipment to be able to do this now."
Other groups to benefit in this round of awards include Families in Touch, in Bristol, which receives £7,835 to educate children and young people about healthy lifestyles, and Kick Start Sports, South Gloucestershire, where £9,842 will provide sports sessions to encourage young people to be more physically active.
Other South Gloucestershire groups, Kingswood District Scout Council, secure £1,800 to attend an event celebrating 100 years of scouting, while Southwold Young People's Hostel Association, receives £4,045 to provide outdoor seating for residents and visitors.
Mark Cotton, Big Lottery Fund Head of the South West region, said on behalf of the Awards for All funders: "The latest round of Awards for All grants continues support for a diverse range of projects that will benefit people across the South West region, and is a reminder that even relatively small sums of money can have a big impact on the lives of people and communities."
