Boost for food producers in the South West

Published: Tue, 10 May 2005 17:57:53

The new enterprise, Exmoor and Quantock Local Food Ltd (EQLF), has been set up with help from two grants from Defra's Rural Enterprise Scheme (RES) to provide warehousing space and create a distribution and marketing business to service suppliers and customers in the area around the Exmoor National Park and the Quantocks Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The RES grants were administered by the Rural Development Service (RDS) in Taunton.
A pigman's office, formerly used to store straw and tools for a piggery at Tower Farm at Lydeard St Lawrence, near Taunton, has been converted into 100m2 of warehousing space. The new business, EQLF Ltd, will operate from here as a co-operative, and aims to build a customer base for local food producers in restaurants, pubs, hotels and caterers as well as exploring public sector opportunities.
