Local community buildings will be transformed through Government grants

Published: Mon, 25 Jan 2010 11:18:51

Community buildings in the South West will be transformed through a Government grant.

Jim Knight, Regional Minister for the South West, said the package of grants will help charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises improve vital facilities they provide for their communities.

The grants, worth up to £30,000 each, are part of the Capital Investment Programme delivered by Capacitybuilders. They support small scale improvements to resource centres that can make a big difference for charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises whose services are suffering in tough economic times.

Regional Minister for the South West, Jim Knight said: "All across the South West local resource centres are playing a big part in community life. They play an important role and I am pleased these grants will help them improve the accessibility or quality of their accommodation.
"Pooling resources with other community centres means they will be able to concentrate on delivering the services local communities need."
