South West Rural Affairs Forum

The forum was established in April 2002 as the focal point for sharing information and voicing concerns about social, economic and environmental policy issues, which affect rural communities in the South West.

Members of the forum do not represent particular organisations but their knowledge and expertise of rural affairs in the South West is invaluable in shaping Government rural policy. A list of members is available under related documents.

The forum is looking for new members. They are particularly in need of people with expertise/experience related to environment, health, and black and ethnic minority issues. Please contact us if you belong to one of these groups or know of anyone who may be suitable.

To put forward a suggested name or to register an interest in becoming a member please download the form below. For more information please contact the secretariat at swraf@gosw.gsi.gov.uk

Meetings of the forum:

  • Review the delivery of Government rural policies in the South West region
  • Monitor whether the needs of the South West rural areas are being met
  • Comment on rural policy proposals from a regional viewpoint
  • Influence the creation of new rural policy
  • Consider specific issues affecting rural communities in the region

Since its establishment, the forum has been successful in adding a rural dimension to policy development and implementation on a wide range of issues in the region.

Forthcoming Meetings:

3 December 2008 - The Palace Hotel Torquay, Devon

Dates for future meetings in 2009 will be confirmed shortly.

Papers for previous SWRAF meetings are available below.
