'Every Child Matters - Change for Children' set out a national framework of change, to be led by local authorities and their partners, to improve life for children and young people. Government Offices (GOs) play a key role in delivering and developing the policies which will achieve this.
More information on the national picture
Most relevant policy responsibilities e.g. social care of children, have
been brought into DCSF. England also has a Children's Commissioner
whose role is to be a national and independent voice for children and
young people. Our job is to act as the link between strategic policy
leadership in Whitehall and local partners who work with and deliver
services for children and young people. These partners include:
- Connexions Partnerships
- District Councils
- Drug Action Teams
- Learning and Skills Councils
- Local Authorities - County and Unitary Authorities
- National Offender Management System (prison and probation)
- Police constabularies
- Primary Care Trusts
- Youth Offending Teams
Our aim is to support the development of better local services. We do this
through managing negotiations between local bodies and national
departments.
Improvement Support Partner’s Calendar
As part of our work to support local authorities through joint improvement
support plans, we have been working with Improvement Support Partners
across the South West to co-ordinate a better and tailored approach. As a
result we have produced a Calendar of
Events which will be updated quarterly and provides details of the
events and network meetings that we and our South West Improvement
Support Partners hope to provide. We hope this will enable local
authority officers and other partners to take account of these meetings
in their work plans.
