South West Statistical Briefs
The reorganisation of local government on April 1 2009 saw the creation of two new unitary authorities in the South West - Cornwall and Wiltshire. Whilst we have updated our statistical briefs to reflect these changes, some of the statistics quoted have yet to be released for the new unitary areas. For this reason, some topics may still include data for the former district areas within the new unitary.
The statistical briefs provide a concise summary of some of the
characteristics and issues for a given area. They combine publicly available
statistics with bullet point narrative observations. The choice of statistical
data is focused on the Government’s Public Service Agreement (PSA)
targets.
The statistical briefs are sub-regional, and are designed as an internal
briefing tool for use by staff in the Government Office for the South West.
They focus on capturing a wide range of evidence-based information to assist us
in carrying out our responsibilities. As such, we hope that you will also find
them interesting.
Whilst we are always happy to receive feedback on the statistical briefs it
should be noted that, as they are for internal use, all decisions about their
content and format will be taken in line with our needs. We regret that we are
unable to amend these briefs for other purposes.
The current set of briefs as well as a regional brief, can be accessed via the
